Beach Clean-up

Over 100,000,000 marine animals a year are killed by plastics, that's over 190 a minute!

Some experts believe that if we don't change our ways by 2048, there might not be any animals left in our oceans.
Entanglement or consuming a plastic bag or bottle cap that could be mistaken for prey (like a jellyfish) is quickly becoming a natural global disaster.

Seadog's #5ADAY project is simple and one that anybody can do.

Simply take 5 minutes of your day to pick up litter (where ever works best for you) photograph it, share it on social media, then recycle.

- Saldanha

The team travelled to Saldanha to take part in a beach clean-up with Extreme Abilities (EA) and other local businesses. Youths from the local informal settlements were brought in to help and lean about the impact our plastic and general rubbish has on the environment. The kids were fantastic and got really involved in collecting the waste plastic from their local beach, the winning team who collected the most rubbish received a surf lesson from our good friend Dries, a surf champion in the prone position.

- Muizenberg

Teaming up with Projects Abroad SA (PASA) and youths from informal settlements on their programs, the team visited Muizenberg to help tackle the rubbish problem on one of Western Capes most visited beaches. PASA do this every month with their youths, it is a great opportunity to educate the next generation on the impact our discarded rubbish has on the environment.

Shuan, the project manager at PASA commented on how important activities like these are, and how they should be an integral part of our every day lives. Shuan teaches the kids that "If they look after the ocean, it will give them waves" - what better incentive for aspiring surfers!?
